About Me

Objective

I’m looking for a full-time management position in an architectural design studio. I am interested in a progressive design process that emphasizes team work and experimentation.

What I Do ?

I provide high-quality development, planning, design and construction document services for all project types (including retail, residential, commercial, entertainment, hospitality, government, mixed-use, etc.). My services include the creation of fully developed schematic design, design development and entitlement packages, Creation and administration of Construction Documents, 3d models and graphics, all for client and jurisdictional review and submittal. I use current versions of Autodesk's Building Design Suite, Adobe's Creative Cloud creative tools suite and SketchUp's software library, all using your inhouse file creation standards and also hand produced using a wide spectrum of materials and methods. I back up my work with in-person presentation and submittal services.

    Architect

    I created design packages for various single family residences. Efforts included the creation of as-built drawings, schematic packages, interfaced width clients, consultants, contractors and government agencies.

    I took care of my mother on a full-time basis during this period. She was advanced in age and very ill. Out of necessity I ran my firm out of my residence. Providing health care left little time for developing any large-scale architectural projects. After my mother’s death, I am now pursuing full time architectural work.

  • 2007-2009

    Chief Architect

    Scenario Design, Inc. | Los Angeles, CA Architectural Services

    I directed a team of 20 members to create a parametric design and construction document set for Universal's indoor water ride "Madagascar" to be located in China.

    Our efforts included creating a proprietary process for designing and documenting theme park attractions through BIM. The goal was to integrate 3dsMax, the software we used to design and document the thematic characters and objects, and Revit, the software we used to design and document the building and its structural ride. The software integration came together in a digital parametric three-dimensional model that included both the geometry and non-geometric design and construction information. The 3d parametric model grew through all phases of the design and construction process. "Pictures" of the model were taken at each phase of documentation and labeled and annotated.

    I focused on schematic design and design development under the supervision of senior designers. I created schematic design and design development packages (including entitlement applications) of retail, entertainment, commercial and residential projects for client review and jurisdictional submittal. Strict application of all pertinent federal, state and local code requirements (including accessibility).

    Designer

    KTGY Group, Inc | Irvine, CA Architectural Services

    I worked on the High Density Residential Team. I worked with senior designer to design, document and present high density residential projects.

    I created conceptual design and design development packages for 4 residential podium buildings (3-4 levels of apartments/condos over 2 levels of parking), for 2 to 3 residential apartment complexes, and for a high-rise condominium project in Oakland, Ca.

    High density residential configurations included: in-line; wrap-around; and podium projects. Accessory components included parking structures, club houses, garages, trash containment and collection, etc.

    Skills: Research and application of all pertinent governmental codes. AutoCAD design; hand sketching, floor and site planning; design publication of hard and digital project packages.

    Substitute Teacher

    I took time off from full-time architecture work to study for my architectural licensing exams. Substituting allowed me to work mornings and then study during the afternoons and evenings (I found that full-time architecture work required at least 10 or more hours per week day and a lot of week-end work. I couldn't effectively attack my licensing studies with so little personal time available).

    Intermediate Designer

    GKK | Newport Beach, CA Architectural Services

    I worked as an assistant to the Senior Designer to design and document various public school projects in the Compton Unified and the Long Beach Unified School Districts.

    I assisted the senior designer in all of his efforts, including community research, collection of user design expectations, hand sketching, model making exploration and 2d documentation. Buildings included: an Intermediate school administration building; an intermediate school administration and library complex; a gymnasium, a district administration building and a central kitchen.

    Intermediate Designer

    MBH Architects | Newport Beach, CA Architectural Services

    Worked on hospitality/residential, educational, retail and mixed-use projects

    Created conceptual and design development packages for portions of a high-rise condominium (Hilton Grand Vacations Club) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Created conceptual and design development packages for 2 retail centers, an elementary school, a high rise residential building and other mixed-use projects.

    I created various conceptual design and design development packages. Projects included an extensive hotel roofscape design, the complete re-design of a hotel's facade, it's main entry (gardens, porte cochere, entry building). Work also included floor & site plans for a hotel service building, a shopping village and hotel suites.
